Three stiff climbs, the last up to Itziar, then a steep, knee-hard descent into Deba. Elorriaga, 7.9 miles in, has no food. With so few rooms, Deba fills in summer; Zumaia, 5.6 miles into the day, has three hotels.

Upstairs at the EuskoTren station in the centre, run by Deba's Camino association with volunteers. 56 beds in four dorms, €8. Pilgrims only, open all year. Register first at the tourist office (Ifar kalea 4) when it's open; otherwise go straight to the albergue.
