Gronze prefers the route through Tapia de Casariego, 0.7 miles longer, by beaches and cliffs. Tapia's small public albergue takes no bookings, and Gronze's own pages disagree on its size and season, so check. You enter Galicia over the Eo on the Puente de los Santos, on a narrow fenced walkway beside the motorway; from here the scallop shells point the other way. Many walkers visit Praia das Catedrais, about 6 miles away, which needs booking on some days.

Camino Histórico via Vegadeo
Leaves 0.5 miles after Tol, 8.5 miles from La Caridad, and rejoins at Mondoñedo
Three days and 39.7 miles, against 35.9 miles on the main line, and much hillier: about 4,530 ft of climbing on the last two days. Quiet estuary and forest country on the historic route, which most pilgrims left for Ribadeo once its bridge opened in 1987. Vegadeo has seven places, including the 23-bed municipal albergue Mar y Montaña (€12, takes bookings). But Trabada, where Gronze ends the second day, has no beds. The 7-bed San Xiao albergue at Sante is 5.5 miles earlier (€5; book the day before and check in between 10:00 and 14:00), so plan Vegadeo to Sante (6.3 miles), then Sante to Mondoñedo (17.4 miles).
