Other ways to go

Célé valley variant (GR651)

Leaves the GR65 near Béduer, about 7.5 miles after Figeac, and rejoins near Bach or at Cahors

About 12 to 17 miles longer, so Figeac to Cahors takes about six days instead of three. Cliffs, caves and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, but beds are thin: Espagnac's communal gîte has about 20 beds (April to October), Marcilhac-sur-Célé has four places, Cabrerets about eight and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie about seven. Book ahead.

Rocamadour variant

Figeac to Cahors through Gramat, Rocamadour and Labastide-Murat

About 76 miles over six days, against 56 miles and three days on the GR65. Rocamadour has plenty of hotels but one pilgrim gîte, La Maison des 4 Chemins (10 beds, April to October). Beds and food are sparse on the causse after Rocamadour. Or visit on a rest day: the train from Figeac to Rocamadour-Padirac takes just over 30 minutes.
