A short, easy day on forest tracks through eucalyptus and oak, with the N-547 road never far away and a bar every few miles. The Camino skirts O Pedrouzo: where it meets the N-547 at the edge of town, turn left for the centre and the beds. The town has about 25 places but no hotel; the nearest are Hotel O Pino in A Rúa, 1 mile before town, and Hotel O Pozo at O Empalme, 2.7 miles before. Most private albergues close for the winter.

Guides' own ratings: Eroski: media
Underfoot. Mostly forest tracks, paths and short boardwalks, with lanes through the hamlets and a few stretches beside the N-547.
From Arzúa the Camino leaves by Rúa do Carmen and a dirt track, dropping and climbing across small stream valleys, the Vello, the Brandeso and the Ladrón, through oak, chestnut and eucalyptus woods and farmland. It passes under the N-547 at Pregontoño and crosses the A-54 motorway on a bridge after Tabernavella. From A Calle de Ferreiros, at mile 4.7, a gentle climb through eucalyptus leads past Boavista to A Salceda, where the route meets the N-547 and passes the Guillermo Watt memorial. For the next 3 miles it stays close to the road, crossing it at road level near A Salceda, through an underpass before A Brea and again at O Empalme, the high point at about 1,340 ft. After Santa Irene the path drops through dense eucalyptus, goes under the N-547 and through A Rúa, then meets the N-547 once more at the edge of O Pedrouzo, at about mile 11.4. The waymarks go straight across into the woods; for the town, turn left along the road.
Good to know
Bars and cafés come every 2 to 3 miles, so there's no need to carry much food (Gronze).
The Camino crosses the N-547 several times, at road level near A Salceda and at O Empalme, so cross with care.
At about mile 11.4 the Camino meets the N-547 at the edge of O Pedrouzo and crosses straight over into the woods; for the centre and the beds, turn left along the road, about 0.6 miles to the town hall.
Signs may say O Pedrouzo, Arca or O Pino: O Pedrouzo is a village in the parish of Arca and the seat of the municipality of O Pino.
If you stop at Santa Irene, there's little there but the two albergues; Eroski says pilgrims take a taxi to dinner in O Pedrouzo, O Empalme or A Rúa.
Collect two dated stamps today, as on every day of the last 62 miles; bars and albergues along the way have them.
Most private albergues in O Pedrouzo close between the end of October and mid-December; only the 150-bed Xunta albergue says it's open all year.
From 16 October 2026 the noon Pilgrims' Mass in Santiago is held at the church of San Agustín, not the cathedral; it's 12 miles from O Pedrouzo, about 4.5 hours' walk.

O Pedrouzo is a village in the parish of Arca and the seat of the municipality of O Pino, so all three names appear on signs and in guides. Along the way, the hamlet names A Calle, A Brea and A Rúa recall the old road that the Camino follows (Gronze).
Santa Irene
The hamlet takes its name from a small stone chapel of the late 17th century and a baroque fountain whose water was said to heal skin complaints and keep you young. A granite figure of the saint, dated 1692, stood in the fountain's niche until it was stolen in the late 1980s.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus came to Galicia from Australia in the 19th century and spread with mass planting for timber and paper pulp in the late Franco years. On this stage it is the dominant tree, and after Santa Irene it forms a dense screen that muffles the road (Eroski).
Look out for
Mile 4.7
Bottles at A Calle de Ferreiros. Bar Tía Dolores serves Peregrina beer, and pilgrims leave the empty bottles, with messages written on them, on wooden posts outside.
Mile 7.1
Guillermo Watt memorial. Leaving A Salceda, where the route turns right beside the road, a wall niche holds a pair of bronze shoes in memory of Guillermo Watt, a pilgrim who died on this stretch in the Holy Year of 1993. It's usually surrounded by candles, stones, notes and flowers.
Mile 8.3
Cheese at A Brea. Alimentos Ruta Xacobea, a few yards off the path, makes Arzúa-Ulloa cheese and sells it in its shop with other Galician cheeses such as tetilla and San Simón.
Mile 9.9
Santa Irene chapel and fountain. The chapel and fountain are on a signed variant to the left of the N-547; the Xunta albergue is on the main line, on the right.
Mile 10.6
Eucalyptus forest. After Santa Irene the path goes under the N-547 and through a dense eucalyptus plantation, past a sawmill, to A Rúa.
Mile 11.4
Turn left for the town. Where the Camino meets the N-547 at the edge of O Pedrouzo, the waymarks go straight across into the woods. For the centre and the beds, turn left along the road.
